Coolpad, from 2015 part of Leeco group, presented in May 2017 a new smartphone that, according to the company, has been designed specifically for gamers and ‘ excellent autonomy. Will it be just like that?
The sales package is minimal, simple, clean and is parked in the center written in Chinese Cool Play 6with a garish blue color. Inside we find, over the phone:
- Coolpad Cool Play 6
- Cover rigid plastic
- Film glossy protective
- Charger Chinese 5V 2A
- Cavo USB A – USB Type-C
- Pin for the dual compartment nano SIM
Design and materials
It is very solid and definitely well built. It is made of metal, with the exception of the upper and lower parts that are made with a different material to allow better reception. It holds well in hand despite the generous thickness of 8.45 mm, but the weight of 175 g is felt. It looks a lot like Leeco Cool 1, for obvious reasons. Very pleasant to the touch and the fingerprint sensor placed in the rear part mirror effect and appear darker than the rest of the body.
Cool Play 6 is moved by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 653 processor 64-bit octa-core that appears to be nearly identical to the predecessor 652 if not for a slight overclock both the CPU and the Adreno 510 GPU. In coupled are then well 6 GB of RAM that, on a smartphone like this, I consider excessive. I believe that 4 GB would be more appropriate.
The display is a 5.5-inch Full HD IPS. Brightness not at the top, however, one can see the light of day. The colors are well-balanced and not overly saturated; Color profiles are settable in the settings. Good viewing angle, a negative note regarding the contrast of blacks, often are more grayish; It is in part a feature of this type of display. On some occasions, the touch does not seem to be particularly responsive and colors change much despite the screen being slightly tilted.
Do not miss the notification LED located at the top and backlit soft touch buttons, as well as the fingerprint on the back of directly beneath the camera. It is not very fast, there will roughly 1 second to perform the unlocking of the device with the screen off.
Despite onboard Android 7.1.1 with Journey UI, I think the very disappointing user experience from the software point of view. The camera app crashes often, it is not fluid, quite warm and games suffer frequent frame drops. In addition to this, there seem to be some problems regarding receiving new notifications, which are not displayed unless you alter some type of parameter on the settings (I tried in every way, but for some, there was app nothing to do).
Optimization software that leaves much to be desired and that affects most of the functionality/features of Coolpad Cool Play 6.
That, however, has left me stunned translations are: first, the folder containing the Google default app is called the guarantee and the app Camera … well, I invite you to see the video review because it is a fact rather funny. Other than that not missing a mixture of English, joined the Chinese-English and then (primary language set on the phone).
On rising up morale. The dual rear camera has 2 Sony 13MP sensors (one RGB, the other monochrome) capable of recording video up to Full HD at 60 fps. Focal Aperture of 2.0, PDAF autofocus accompanied by dual LED flash dual tone. The front camera instead has 8 MP, focal aperture of 2.2 and record video up to Full HD at 30 fps. The shutter is not very quick and will happen more than once that camera shake even in good lighting conditions.
In the presence of sunlight is the front chamber and rear succeed in bringing out the best of them. Photo very beautiful, detailed, sharp and in low light conditions the sensors not doing badly perform. The videos instead are slightly mixed. Do not miss all the ‘support automatic HDR.
Selfies well detailed, good wide angle and with the ability to carry a lightweight photo editing directly from the camera.
Despite having a capacity of 4060mAh it is rather disappointing. It takes 3 hours for a fully loaded phone is turned off despite the smartphone is equipped with a USB Type-C and recharging takes place with a wall adapter output to 5V 2A. I managed to cover an entire day with an average user, but I would have expected much more! If you start hacking a little you will see the battery drain quickly take a foot.
The total absence of the band 20, which lack is felt for me that I currently operator Vodafone. The signal scanning or data network is an agony. While it is not indoor seems to want to attach to the 4G network and the connection is slow and rather difficult. As a result, the smartphone starts to heat up too much.
In addition to the earpiece capsule from which feels discreetly, there is also a speaker placed in the lower part of the device. At maximum volume, the sound is distorted in part, and this defect is audible without effort. The low frequencies are partly absent and the volume is not particularly high.
I do not consider Coolpad Cool Play 6 can be a phone designed for gamers. The hardware components and incomplete optimization software do not allow this phone to shine.
